Food and nutrition can be classified as two extremely competitive and developing fields for the modern economy, domestically as well as internationally.  International research underlines the fact that awareness of the consumers on food safety, food quality and food nutritional value will be increased exponentially in the decades to come.
The graduates of the D.F.S.N, as the future Scientists of Food and Nutrition, will be in a position to cover successfully the high end trends of the market, and the corresponding consumer needs.  Students are provided with all the  knowledge and acquire the qualifications and skills that are required in order to be employed as executives  in the private sector (Food Enterprises, Food Consultanting companies, companies of Nutrition Products etc.), as well as in the public sector (Food Analysis Laboratories, Research Centers, Training Institutes / Continuous Education).
More specifically, the Graduates of the D.F.S.N. can be employed in the following sectors:
  1. Planning and application of analytical techniques for the management of the safety and the quality of the food raw materials and final products.
  2. Organization, follow-up and evaluation of food production process, which results in safe and quality products with increased nutritional value and organoleptic properties.
  3. Development of innovative, novel food products such as nutritious and functional foods.
  4. Improvement food product quality and safety
  5. Planning, application and follow-up systems that guarantee quality in foods.
  6. Implementation of European and Greek food legislation on food production.
  7. International presence and support for citizens of the developing countries in order to improve the management and the storage of foods.
  8. Participation in the general strategy for effective and safe production, processing, transport, preservation, storage and disposal of foods.
  9. Management, organization and operation of small and medium-sized companies of food production and treatment.
  10. Basic research, education and teaching of corresponding courses.
Aiming at the most effective registration of the graduates in the job market of food enterprises in Greece, the Department has already established close collaboration with the Association of Greek Food Industries, representing the 200 biggest, most dynamic food industries of the country  (SEVT;
Bureau of Career and Employment
This is a service available to the students and graduates that are interested in starting their professional career and also to the enterprises and the organizations that seek candidates for collaboration.  The service provides information with regard to the action of organizations and food enterprises in Greece and abroad where the graduates of Department could be occupied.
The Bureau of Career and Employment (BCE) is a new unit within the framework of the Operational Programme "Education and Lifelong Learning" of the "National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) 2007 -2013". Its role is to formulate the strategy, vision and policies of the University regarding labour market liaising and the professional careers of its graduates.
Within this context, the BCE coordinates the Units under its supervision and their activities, implements joint publicity and sensitization activities, manages and operates an integrated database and is responsible for the evaluation and quality control of all activities undertaken by the Bureau and its affiliated Units.
